Are your teeth chipped, stained or worn? Are you interested in lengthening short teeth, closing spaces, or making the teeth appear straighter? If so, you may be a candidate for veneers. A veneer is an ultra-thin porcelain facing that is custom made and is bonded to the front surface of a tooth. A minimal amount of tooth structure is removed to allow room for the veneers to fit comfortably. Veneers are often placed to improve the size, shape, and/or colour of the original teeth to create a beautiful smile. Careful evaluation is needed by Dr. Caroline to assess the health of the gum tissues, the spacing and angle of the teeth, and the bite relationship to determine if this type of restoration is appropriate. Although it is possible to veneer just one tooth, quite often several veneers are placed to improve the colour match and overall symmetrical appearance of the smile. To explore the many ways veneers can enhance your smile, contact us for additional information by calling 403-346-0077.
Under the supervision of a dentist, the application of a mild carbamide or hydrogen peroxide solution in gel form applied to the teeth has been used to lighten discolourations. Dr. Caroline will evaluate if this treatment is suitable for your teeth and you are a candidate for whitening. We are pleased to offer two options:
Dentist-Approved Home Whitening Kits Our office will take impressions of your teeth and fabricate a clear custom whitening tray. Our team will instruct you on how to administer the gel and how often to wear your trays. Treatment typically continues for 10 to 14 days. The before and after tooth shades are then compared. Treatment results depend on genetic factors, as well as eating and drinking habits. Continued, intermittent treatment may be required to maintain results.
In-Office Teeth Whitening with Zoom!® The convenience of our in-office treatment is valued by many of our patients. This treatment lasts about an hour. We will apply a whitening gel to your teeth, then use a specially designed light to activate the gel. This initial jump-start to treatment is continued at home as we also supply clear custom whitening trays and take-home whitening gel so you can continue treatments from the comfort of your own home.
Bonding is a conservative cosmetic solution used to give the illusion of straighter teeth, close gaps, or to increase the symmetry of the smile. A composite resin (White filling) is used to add structure where the tooth is deficient. Very little tooth preparation is normally required. The composite resin, being more porous than a porcelain veneer, can be subject to staining. Bonding has been an excellent procedure for many patients to enhance their smile.
In some cases, minor corrections of the shape or size of a tooth can create a dramatic difference in the smile. Smoothing of chipped edges, rounding of sharp corners, or reduction in tooth length are just some of the conservative and inexpensive options for a cosmetic rejuvenation. Please ask us at your next appointment if you might benefit from this service.
Contrary to popular belief, there is not a specialty within dentistry known as “cosmetic dentistry.” Red Deer patients do have the option of exploring veneers and other cosmetic treatments from a general dentist, such as Dr. Caroline Krivuzoff-Sanderson.
